UNDERSTANDING ADDICTION

Recovery from addiction starts with a choice to seek treatment. Westwind Recovery understands how difficult it is to take that first step; that’s why we strive to embrace every single person who walks through our doors.

Addiction is one of America’s biggest social problems. Substance abuse touches more than 20 million Americans every single year, ranging from illicit drug use to prescription drug and alcohol abuse. All forms of abuse can eventually lead to dependency, which can be difficult or even impossible to break without help.

People turn to drugs for many reasons: peer pressure, self-medication, experimentation, or even simple peer pressure. While not every user becomes an addict, the risk of addiction exists from the moment of first use. The younger a person is when they begin to experiment with drugs, the higher their risk of becoming dependent. Interventional treatments like inpatient detox and therapy help clients uncover the underlying cause of their addiction so they can address contributory issues, achieve wellness, and live happier lives without substances.

Inpatient therapy isn’t right for every client. For some, our outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and sober living programs are a better fit. These have a lower demand on time, letting clients focus on healing without neglecting work, family, or school obligations.

HELP IS AVAILABLE

At Westwind Recovery, respect and dignity serve as our most important cornerstones across all programs. Clients are precious, unique individuals with their own individual addiction stories; all are deserving of love, support, and compassion. That’s why we work hard to customize the treatment path to the needs of the client instead of creating cookie-cutter “quick fix” programs that may not be the right fit. All you have to do to get started on the road to recovery is asking for help.

Every experience starts with a thorough needs-based assessment. This includes evaluation for detox or medication-assisted therapy programs. Some clients move into individual or group therapy programs on an outpatient basis; others need a higher level of inpatient or residential support.

While every client is different, inpatient therapy is by far the most effective starting point for people with addiction. By taking the client out of their daily environment and routine, they are better able to focus on recovery with less stress and more support.

Psychotherapy, relapse prevention, and co-occurring condition management are critical facets of Westwind’s recovery programs. We strive to meet clients where they are by providing access to many viable options for recovery-focused clients.

How clients transition from treatment to fully independent, sober living lifestyles also matters. Both during the program and post-graduation, clients have the option to take part in any one or more of these activities:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Individual counseling
  • Group therapy
  • Nutritional Counseling
  • Art therapy
  • Mindfulness (yoga/meditation)
  • Physical activities
  • 12-Step programs
  • Life skills courses

We encourage our clients to try new things and explore their own interests, but they are never forced to participate in activities that don’t align with their personal beliefs. Having a variety of holistic techniques available aids clients in the healing process, both now and well into the future.

Addiction enacts a heavy toll on people with addiction and their families. Westwind Recovery’s recovery community supports family members throughout the process with integrative services for wellness, like family therapy. Healing and restoring relationships is an important part of the process, as is giving clients the tools they need to learn to love themselves, renew their sense of hope, ask for forgiveness and heal.
